Youth Ministry
~Be Sure to visit
our slide show~
Our
youth ministry exists to help students grow
closer to God through fun activities, service,
and discipleship. Youth of all ages are welcome;
parents of youth under 8 are asked to attend
with their child.
We meet each Sunday at
church from 12 - 2. There is an optional youth
prayer circle lead by a youth from 11:45 -
12. At noon, we head outside for an hour of
activity. Some of the activities include:
broom hockey, sledding, and snowshoeing in
the winter;
softball, SPUD ball, and capture the flag
in the summer. After the activity, we enjoy
lunch together back @ the church, as a youth
leader reads a devotional to initiate a discussion
on Christian principals. We also take field
trips throughout the year to professional
hockey and baseball games as well as to local
youth team games. We also travel to fellowship
with other churches' youth groups. Our youth
service ministry meets on Tuesday evenings
(see below). On Friday evenings, our youth
group gathers at the church for Bible study
and games from 7 - 9pm. If you would like
more information about our youth group, or
if you would like to be included in the weekly
youth newsletter, please contact youth leader,
Kirk Phelps, at sickleman@aol.com.
Youth
Service Night
Youth
service night is an extension of youth group.
Kids volunteer their time helping elderly
folks in our local community for a couple
hours every Tuesday evening. Parents share
the driving responsibilities. Typically, 10-15
youth go out to 8-10 homes. We shovel snow
and sand in the winter, haul and stack wood,
sweep and clean, take trash to the dump, fill
bird feeders, feed sheep and pet lambs, help
with minor repairs, repot indoor plants, change
light bulbs and simply visit. One woman has
a problem with squirrels. We have helped by
catching over twenty of the critters in Have-A-Heart
traps and releasing them in the next county.
This Spring we will focus on yard work- raking,
weeding and the like. We do anything that
can be a help. Most of the folks we visit
are in their 70's and 80's; some are quite
handicapped. Our mission is to share God's
love in tangible ways. We are uplifted when
folks allow us to help.
